Tonight, Mac Bar shut it's doors for the final time. Last night was the big sendoff, with the music and the dancing and the partying and whatnot, but tonight was a more intimate affair, a handful of close friends saying goodbye to the old girl before it gets bulldozed and replaced by something way, way less good.
It was a really good weekend, about as good as we could have hoped for. There was no trouble, no fights, nothing got broken or stolen, and everybody had a blast. The 'Rider game on Sunday afternoon was one for the ages, and seeing Chrissy dancing on the table in the bar on Sunday night is probably the best memory that I will take away from that place.
I'll miss it an awful lot, but I'll miss the people more. It's been a really emotional time for all of us who were lucky enough to have ties to that place, and I've done my best to put a good face on it, but when that old shit-hole comes down, it's gonna leave a huge hole in this community that will never, ever be filled. But, I guess it's like the song says,
Don't it always seem to go
You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone
They paved Paradise, put up some shitty fucking condos
or something like that.
